This lecture will examine the regional and cultural foundations of Jiangnan, tracing the origins and early development of modern Chinese oil painting in this area. The speakerwill outline the historical evolution from the Painting and Handicraft Department of Liangjiang Normal School to the School of Arts at Nanjing University, and analyze the current state of oil painting in Jiangsu Province since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Drawing on his own artistic practice, he will further share insights into oil painting creation and explore potential pathways for sustaining and advancing Jiangsu’s distinctive oil painting legacy.
