Content Summary

This lecture focuses on the underlying causes of the rise of Stele Schoolof Calligraphy in the Qing dynasty. Although epigraphy is often cited as the primary catalyst, its earlier flourishing in the Song dynasty did not produce a comparable Stele School movement, calling into question its decisive role. The lecture further examines how additional structural factors—including intellectual trends, scholarly paradigms, and socio-economic conditions—collectively drove this transformative shift in Chinese calligraphic history.
